About Me
I was born in Germany and lived there for the first two decades of my life. For the remaining two decades, I have lived in New Zealand. I am the perfect blend of a German and a Kiwi: a Giwi!
I have been making documentaries for over 15 years. As a filmmaker, I have a focus on natural history and social documentary. In particular, I look to find the heart of a story in the hearts of the people involved.
My film about a guitar maker, Singing Wood, was selected for the New Zealand International Film Festival. Wind Dancer: the story of Shona Dunlop MacTavish, documented the extraordinary life of the woman who brought modern dance to New Zealand. It dealt with three of the greatest social upheavals of the 20th Century: Nazism, Communism, and Apartheid. It was also selected for the New Zealand International Film Festival as well as the WildSouth International Film Festival. My recently completed documentary for the Malaysian Film Board, The Guardian of Kinabalu, is the story of a native of Borneo, Alim Biun, who has led a lifetime crusade to save the most biologically diverse place on Earth, Kinabalu Park.

My family have always been important to me and my late father, Rolf, a retired Interpol officer, plays a key supporting role in Finding Edi.
